The Tall Take (“we”, “us”) operates thetalltake.com. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. If anything here is unclear, contact us through the contact form.
Information we collect
- Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-NJKNW55NED), implemented through the MonsterInsights plugin, to understand how people find and use the site. This records information such as pages viewed, time on page, approximate location by region, referring website, device type and browser. It is aggregated and we do not use it to identify individuals.
- Third-party social scripts. The site loads the Facebook JavaScript SDK, used by a plugin to power social sharing features. It is not an advertising pixel and we run no advertising tracking, but because the script is served by Meta, Meta may be able to see that your browser requested a page here. This is governed by Meta’s own privacy policy.
- Contact form submissions. If you use the contact form we receive whatever you type into it, including your name and email address, so that we can reply.
- Comments. If you leave a comment we store the comment, the name and email you supply, and your IP address, which WordPress records as standard spam protection.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs, which include IP addresses and request times.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses them for analytics, for the social sharing script described above, and for affiliate tracking. Affiliate cookies are set by retailers such as Amazon or by affiliate networks when you click a product link, and they are how a retailer knows a purchase came from this site. They typically expire between 24 hours and several days depending on the retailer.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them will not stop you reading anything here, though some things may behave differently.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you buy through them at no additional cost to you. This is covered in full on the affiliate disclosure page. Clicking an affiliate link passes a referral identifier to the retailer; it does not pass your name or email address.
How we use information
To understand which articles are useful, to reply to messages you send us, to keep the site working, and to receive credit for purchases made through affiliate links. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send marketing email because we do not currently operate a mailing list.
Third parties
Data is processed by these services in the course of running the site: Google (Analytics), Meta (social SDK), Amazon Associates and any affiliate networks we participate in, our web host, and WordPress plugins including MonsterInsights and All in One SEO. Each has its own privacy policy governing what it does with that data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to its processing. Residents of California and the EU/UK have specific statutory rights under the CCPA and GDPR respectively. To make a request, use the contact form and we will respond as promptly as we can.
You can also opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on, and manage off-site activity in your Meta account settings.
Children
This site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
